This precious baby girl was abandoned in town. We received a call from the local children's officer asking us if we could help them as they had no place to keep her.
We took her into our home instantly and named her Amia which means Dearly loved.
She was around 2 months older than our baby girl and weighed almost 5kg LESS than Malia. She was severely dehydrated and malnourished. We took her for an immediate check up at our district hospital.
When we would bathe her, she would submerge her entire head beneath the water in order to try and drink the water.
She couldn't move and coundn't cry for the first 4 or 5 days that we had her. USAID gave us meals for her that were high calorie meals. Within a week or so, she began to get more strength and become mobile.
The first time we saw her smile, our hearts melted.
Malia and Amia became best buds.
After about a month with us, she was completely back to health and we were able to transfer her to a children's home in the capital city, Nairobi.
